These are pretty cool. I've never used or owned one, but the idea of harvesting the honey without disturbing the bees or having to go through the comb-spinning-cutting process seems super nifty.

The only negatives I've heard is that they're expensive, and that the bees have trouble communicating via vibrations through the plastic foundations within the frames.

I don't own it either or know anyone who does and there's remarkably little discussion about them on the bee forums but a ton of advertising for them.

You get the impression from the ads that they're perpetual motion honey makers. Just put a package of bees in the box and viola! you're done working except for putting a jar under the tap, kinda like the coffee machine at work.

You still have to keep the bees healthy and do all the normal disease and pest preventions and , again, very very little discussion of this where you'd expect to find it.
