Title: Acacia hybrid
Post by: Greentoe on July 20, 2013, 05:39:47 PM
I was thinking about trying to get as acacia obtusufolia and cross pollinating it with an acacia simplex to see if I could end up with a cold hardy plant with high alk content. Has anyone tried this or something similar? Any suggestions?

I have to either find a plant or some seeds for acacia obtusufolia then grow it until it flowers so it will be a good minute before I get to try this out, but it sounds like something worth looking into.

I like the idea   :)

I'm not an Acacia expert... I suggest looking at Acacia acuminata sub-species burkitti also known as Acacia burkitti.

You may wish to experiment with breeding something from this.  The following info pertains to burkitti, and came from
b-and-t-world-seeds.com/

20° to 30°F   (-6.5° to -1°C)

Good luck finding obtusifolia seeds from a non-ebay reliable vendor, and if you find some within the US- or ships to the US- please send me the supplier's name in a PM (I don't want to bother getting a permit to import them).
