The nook goes down every so often for a few days at times although happened less often recently.
I'd say check back every other day or so and it should return

Its been a very long time since that happened. I believe it has but not in recent years. Soon as they get hold of doc he will fix it. Its been down for shorter periods occasionally.

I hope not....Doc has been hard as hell to get in touch with lately...hopefully we can find out what the deal is and get it fixed....im starting to go through withdrawals lol hopefully its fixed soon

Botswap went through a period not too long ago where it'd be down for a couple days. Somebody saw fit to fix it even though there has been almost zero traffic on it for two years now. Gives me hope for the Nook.

yeap....I love the nook just the way it is....Ive been talking with the same core group of friends there for a little over 13 years now...been there since day 1....I hope to god its fixed soon....

the govt has so much fucking power on the internet these days....if they wanted us it would be that hard...I wouldnt talk shit on FB like I do at the nook...but it would be nice to touch bases with people you have ongoing trades with or etc...hope it gets fixed and soon

Sorry guys, the Nook is down.
The reason is that we hadn't updated the forum software in time, and spammers injected malicious code which started pumping out over 1000 emails in an hour from our server.
Our host saw that as suspicious behaviour, and shut our email system down. I'm currently downloading the Nook from the server, so I can search through and replace the infected PHP files. The nook forum download is 85% complete after 40 hours downloading, so it will take a while.
The database error message that was here earlier, was because some PHP files have been replaced by virus infected versions. I do have a backup of the forum software, but until I know which files are infected, I don't want to swap things over, as I want to track down the virus, instead of just swapping files around, hoping that overwriting them all fixes it.

I'm guessing whoever "owns" the site fucked up and forgot to pay a recurring bill. I've done it on my own photography website. It was a recurring credit card payment which arrived at my card within the three days between the time it maxxed out and got paid. A friggin' nightmare to fix.
What I can tell you is there was no discussion among the mods and admins that something was coming down the pike, at least none I was privvy to. Which is the primary reason I suspect a brainfart as opposed to a cold killing of the website.
Time will tell.
But what a fuggin' waste of decades of good input from a lot of smart people.

Actually, I went to the nook just a day or two ago and it showed it was offline, which made me wonder wtf was going on.
"Remain Calm.... We are being held hostage by hostgator who will simply not address a support ticket to reinstate our site.... They shut it down because there were old backups stored on the site that they say violated the TOS.. and sure enough we didn't get their notice in a timely fashion because we dont check that email enough...
I will post updates here... we are also considering moving because of the slow tech support, and will let everyone know as soon as we know..."

Appears to be up and running again.
Maybe it had something to do with the country of visiting the page.
As they stated they would have some test going on on their site which could cause problems
